Who is the live online PAT course for?
Anyone over 18 who wants to carry out practical PAT testing — taking testing in-house to cut costs, keeping a workplace compliant, or starting a PAT testing business — without travelling to a venue. It's built for people with little or no electrical experience.

What you'll learn
Electrical safety, regulations and responsibilities, appliance classes I/II/III, insulation and earthing, earth leakage and run tests, load tests, and how to record results correctly.

How the day runs
Morning theory over Zoom, then guided hands-on testing on your own PAT tester, finishing with an assessment. Your UKRS certificate follows within 7–10 days. Typically 9:30–4:30.

Frequently asked questions
Is this a self-study online course?
No — and that's deliberate. PAT testing is a practical skill, and we don't think self-study does it justice. This is a full tutor-led day, live over Zoom, with practical elements included: the best of both worlds.
Do I need my own PAT tester?
Yes — because the course is hands-on, you'll need a PAT tester with you to follow the practical demonstrations. If you don't have one yet, tick the Martindale HPAT550 or the TTS PAT Tester & Label Printer Kit option when booking your date - the £50 discount is applied automatically - and we'll ship it before your course.
What equipment do I need to join?
Your own PAT tester, a laptop, PC or tablet with a camera and microphone, a reliable internet connection, and access to a printer. Basic English and maths, and one free day — that's it.
Do I need to be an electrician?
No. You need training and to be assessed as competent — that's exactly what this course does. It's designed for people with little or no electrical experience.
Will I get a certificate?
Yes — all successful learners receive a UKRS-accredited Certificate of Competence from TTS, exactly the same as our in-person courses. It follows within 7–10 days of passing.
Is the Zoom course as good as attending in person?
It's the same course, same trainer quality, same certificate — with the trade-off that you provide your own tester and appliances to practise on. If you'd rather have everything provided, our open days run at 24 UK venues.
What is PAT tester calibration?
Your PAT tester measures resistance and current, so it needs checking at suitable intervals — most manufacturers and the IET Code say annually. We can arrange calibration for you.
